Situated next door to the Home Alone house in Winnetka (Old Man Marley's House), the house was an ungainly proportioned Craftsman Style house from the beginning of the 20th Century. It had several unfortunate additions, including a not-quite octagonal family room. We expanded the house by extending a new master bedroom and connecting hall across the second floor. The new projecting balcony and witches' hat roof obscures the irregularity of the ground floor geometry. We extended the use of the board and batten siding to make it an integral part of the overall design. During construction, the Owner arranged for this to be an ASID show house. As a result, we had to coordinate the work of twenty interior designers; proof that you can work your way through any problem.
